Sunset into Oblivion out now!!

Sunset into Oblivion marks the second solo album by Argentine guitarist Patricio Nicholson to be released on October 24th after a six year gap from his debut album Aliens in the Sky. The artwork was created by Sol Nicholson. Sunset into Oblivion was written and produced by Patricio Nicholson, recorded at P.A.N Studios. Recording Engineer, Fernando Richard took care of the stereo and Dolby Atmos mix, as well as the mastering of the album.

In the beginning of March 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the plans for promoting the first album Aliens in the Sky was put on indefinite hiatus, as a result of cancelled shows and promotion. In the meantime Patricio dove into the now common practice of online teaching, where he had to find a way not only to keep his private instruction afloat, but also the core curriculum of the EMC (Escuela de Musica Contemporanea), where he has been a professor in the areas of guitar, harmony and ear-training since 2007.

Although some years have passed between Aliens.. and Sunset.. There is another album's worth of material in which the vocals and lyrics are the main attraction. That was composed during 2020 and 2021. While a “singing” album was being written, Patricio found that it wasn’t the right time for that kind of musical adventure. “I felt that I was forcing myself to sing, although I have been in bands my entire career occupying the roles of singer or background vocalist. It just didn’t feel natural at this time. When I stumbled onto the riff for Rise Again, I knew that was the direction I had to take”

Composed during 2023 and recorded all through 2024, the eight songs on Sunset into Oblivion showcase Patricio’s affinity for writing progressive/complex music  yet melodic and riff based displaying an almost “pop” feel on some tracks. “This album is truly ME, I had no reservation whatsoever. On Aliens I tried to make a broader album catering to different audiences. More of a "showcase" if you will. But on Sunset I just went with my gut all the way.

The music on Sunset into Oblivion advocates a sense of hope and “Lifting Spirits” contrary to the album title and cover. “I like the idea of sending a mixed message, especially where no lyrics are involved. I think that the pandemic felt a bit like that. On one side all our futures looked bleak, but on the other the technological breakthroughs as a result of this experience brought forth a glimpse of hope. Only time will tell..”
